The NSW Government confirmed the opening date on 22 October, following final safety approval from the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator the previous day. The new section completes a continuous Metro line from Bankstown through the city and Chatswood to the northwest.
New direct connections from Chatswood
Passengers from Chatswood can stay on the Metro to Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park, Canterbury, Campsie, Belmore, Lakemba, Wiley Park, Punchbowl and Bankstown. The government lists Canterbury to Chatswood at 31 minutes, a saving of 23 minutes against the previous journey. The opening also brings first-time lift access to Wiley Park, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park, Punchbowl and Canterbury stations.
Planning an opening-weekend trip
The announced timetable provides services every 4 minutes during weekday peaks, every 5 minutes during the day and every 10 minutes in the evenings and on weekends. The first weekend is an exception, with services every 7 minutes. Check current routes and service updates at transportnsw.info before travelling. Transport for NSW confirmed on 30 October that Southwest Link buses will remain in place until further notice. Additional staff are available across the network during the opening period. Transport for NSW says 6 platform screen doors at 4 stations remain temporarily closed as a safety precaution, so passengers should follow station signs and staff directions.
