Chatswood South secures $1 million for safer public spaces
Willoughby Council’s two-year Her Way project will ask women, girls and gender-diverse people to help identify safety improvements in the Chatswood South CBD.

The funding comes from Transport for NSW’s Safer Cities: Her Way 2 program. The state’s grant register records approval in April 2026 for Her Way: Chatswood South Transport Precinct.
Council plans to invite participants to walkshops, where they will walk through the area and discuss what feels safe and where changes are needed. Engagement activities and co-design workshops will help shape the project.
Possible improvements include:
- better lighting and clearer sight lines
- public art and signs to help people find their way
- upgrades to amenities and accessibility
- events and activities in public spaces.
Council says invitations to the walkshops and co-design sessions will follow.
